I am currently visiting professor of music education at the University of Education, Weingarten, and am therefore on leave from my position as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cologne. I am also a Junior Fellow at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg. After completing my PhD in education at the University of Hamburg with a thesis on a theory of transformational processes of musical Bildung, I was a visiting professor of music education and didactics at the HMT Leipzig and taught music and German at schools. Before my PhD, I was a director and dramaturg for theatre and music performances, which continue to interest me in university teaching and educational contexts.

My research is at the interface of music education/didactics, philosophy of education and/or philosophy of music, which is why I conduct research using theoretical or philosophical means, but also make empirical and historical contributions. Topics that I am currently working on in particular are the concept, object/content and quality criteria of music teaching, canons of music education, the didactics of popular music (with a focus on (digital) songwriting, hip hop, electronic music, …) as part of the COMeArts project & the Cologne HipHop Institute, and educational decisions (from ethical and other normative perspectives).
